Hammons Products is the nation’s leading commercial processor of American Black Walnuts. Located in the small town of Stockton, Missouri (near Springfield), the business was founded in 1946 when a local grocer began buying Black Walnuts from folks in the Ozarks. Today, the company is the largest employer in the community and buys about 24 million pounds of wild Black Walnuts every year from people in 12-15 midwestern states (mostly small towns). 65% of each year’s harvest comes from Missouri.

After shelling the nuts at their plant in Stockton, the company sells the nutmeats as a food ingredient for ice cream, candies, and baking, working with food companies and grocery distributors across the U.S. The “Hammons” brand of packaged Black Walnuts continues to grow, while most every other brand of packaged Black Walnuts also come from Hammons Products. The hard nutshells are sold as an abrasive for machine cleaning, filtration, and oil drilling mud for companies all over the world.
